Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr. Drummer / Composer, born in Hull, Québec Canada. The son of jazz saxophonist Al-Hajj Sayyd Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Nasyr was a member of the Dizzy Gillespie band. Both father and son appeared in the 1989 feature film A Night in Havana. Later, Nasyr toured with Oliver Jones and recorded on Jones's album Just Friends. Nasyr is currently a Professor in the music faculties of both Vanier College & Concordia University in Montréal where he teaches drums and ensembles to students.
Nasyr studied at Berklee College of Music completing his Bachelor of Arts in Jazz composition and arranging. During his studies Nasyr received 3 Canada Council grants, The Buddy Riche Jazz Masters Award from Berklee & the Roy Haynes Scholarship also from Berklee as well as a Berklee tuition Scholarship
Nasyr went to become the drummer for Dizzy Gillespie and toured the world for 4 years. He appeared and performed in a documentary film entitled “Dizzy Gillespie a night in Havana”. Nasyr has also appeared in the video “Dizzy Gillespie A night in Chicago” Nasyr Performed at the Montréal Jazz Fest several times with fellow musicians, Oliver Jones & the Montréal Symphony Orchestra, Time Capsule and recently with Grammy nominee Kenny Garrett. Blessed with all the gifts he was given throughout his career Nasyr decided to share his knowledge by creating a drum camp in the middle of nature. In 2008 Nasyrium Drum Camp became a reality that capture the attention of Canadian Cinema & Television Genie award winning Producer John Walker who film a documentary about Nasr’s Camp entitled “A Drummers Dream”

John Walker began his career as a photographer in Montreal. In 1975 he turned to
cinematography and filmmaking. He has won many awards for his producing,
directing and cinematography with credits on over sixty films. His films have
received international acclaim, have been widely broadcast and have appeared at
the major international film festivals in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin
and London. From the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT) he has
received numerous nominations and awards including the Genie for best feature
documentary- Strand - Under the Dark Cloth, a Gemini
for best director- The Hand of Stalin and the coveted
Donald Brittian Award for best documentary - Utshimassits:
